Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and with the support of Kitsap County, many people experiencing homelessness are staying at the Kitsap Fairgrounds under the direction of the Kitsap Rescue Mission, or at the Bremerton Salvation Army facility. The goal is to reduce the likelihood that these people will contract and spread the COVID-19 virus. One of our partners, Peninsula Community Health Services (PCHS) is providing medical and behavioral health care at both of these locations. Well done PCHS!
The Clean Project has learned that there is a very high recidivism (re-offend) rate among homeless inmates in the Kitsap County Jail, and who are on the Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) program. This program helps those with substance abuse disorders leave that problem behind, and is a very important component in the Supportive Housing plan. The Clean Project founder is working with staff members who are directly involved with inmate release to possibly find at least a partial solution to this problem. Stay tuned!
